THE MELBOURNE CUP
WHY FLOOD TIDE DID NOT START LBy Telegraph— PreßS Association] AUCKLAND, This Day. A sprained muscle on the rear part of the rump was the cause of Flood Tide being unable to fulfil his engagement in the Melbourne Cup, said the owner, Mr Desmond Davis, on returning by the Mariposa this morning. Fie stated that in the Caulfield Cup Flood Tide had a good start, but did not make a run when he should have done. Otherwise he put up a good performance, running fifth. Mr Davis commented on the excellent way in which meetings were conducted in Australia, every courtesy being extended to visiting sportsmen. New Zealand horses were in high favour. Flood Tide is being sent to-day from Melbourne to Sydney, and would reach Auckland on Friday next by the Awatea. His next start will be in the Auckland Cup.
