MODERATOR DESIGNATE

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH THE REV. T. E. RIDDLE APPOINTED Ib.v Telegrapti—Press Association! AUCKLAND, 13th November. By a unanimous vote the Rev. Thomas Eu’art Riddle, of Punjab, India, to-day was appointed Moderatordesignate by the General Assembly of the New Zealand Presbyterian Church. Other nominations in favour of the Revs. J. Davie, G. H. Jupp, H. Davies, and J. Patterson were withdrawn in favour of Mr Riddle. In moving the appointment, the Rev. J. A. Thomson said Mr Riddle was ordained in 1903. He began work in the Punjab 1912, and rendered wonderful service to the church. No one had done greater service in the Indian mission field. During the War he served as chaplain with the Indian troops, and had contracted a severe illness which almost cost him his life. He would be returning on furlough next year. Mr Thomson thought it would be fitting to call him to the church. As Moderator he would dignify the office and do a great deal to improve missionary effort, which was the crying need to-day. The motion was seconded by the Rev. G. 11. Jupp, who paid a tribute to Mr Riddle’s great work in the mission field.
