LABOUR MEMBER’S BILL REJECTED BY THE COMMONS (British Official Wiielessl RUGBY, 12th November. The House of Commons discussed the subject of holidays with pay on a Labour member’s Bill which was rejected on the second reading. Mr R. A. Butler, Parliamentary Un-der-Secretary for India, intervened in the debate in support of an amendment which was later passed and which, while welcoming the development of the practice of granting holidays with pay by voluntary agreement, refused assent to the Bill pending the report of a departmental committee under the chairmanship of Lord Amulree which the Government appointed earlier this year to investin' 'e all relevant facts. Mr Butler mentioned that the committee expected to finish taking evidence very soon and would thereupon proceed to consider its report. He stated that since the Question was last debated in the House 9,000.000 workpeople had been granted holidays with pay by agreement between their employers and the trade unions concerned.
