FORGERY ALLEGED
RESERVE BANK £5 NOTES MAN ON TRIAL I By Telegraph—Press Association! WELLINGTON, This Day. Charged on two counts with forging Reserve Bank £5 notes, Charles Alfred Remmers, carpenter and labourer, aged 48, appeared before Mr Justice Reed in the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday. The Crown proseeutor, Mr W. H. Cunningham prosecuted, and accused conducted his own defence. Mr Cunningham said that the Crown would bring evidence to show that accused was in Auckland on Christmas Eve and that he visited various places and tendered forged £5 notes in payment for goods. The second part of the Crown’s case would deal with articles found by the police at accused’s premises in Boston Terrace. Expert evidence would be given as to how these articles could be used in making the forged notes. The third section of the evidence would show that for some time before Christmas accused was interested in the process used in making the notes. The Crown is calling 16 witnesses. Their evidence, on the lines of that given in the lower court, was still proceeding at the adjournment yester,day afternoon.
