The members of the Nelson Pipe Band met last night to farewell Piper W. Lake who will be leaving Nelson shortly to take up his appointment with the New Zealand Royal Air Force. On behalf of the band. Mr N. Harley, vicepresident. congratulated Piper Lake on lu's selection for the Air Force, and made a suitable presentation which carried with it the best wishes of his fellow pipers. The position of registrar of the Auckland University College was filled when Mr Lawrence O. Desborough, Wellington, was appointed by the college council to succeed Mr M R. O'Shea. Mr Desborough was selected from 35 applicants, states a P.A. message from Auckland. Miss Olwyn Haycock, of Richmond, who represented New Zealand at the international Girl Guide camp in the United States, has returned to the Dominion. Miss Haycock spoke of her experiences during the children's hour from IYA yesterday. She will arrive home on Sunday morning.
