The State Athletic Commission is not recognising the match between Marcel Thil (France) and Fred Apostoli as a world middle-weight title bout. This reduces the significance of the championship carnival in which Lou Ambers and Pedro Montanez (Porto Rico) meet in a lightweight bout, and Sixto Escobar and Harry Jail'ra in a bantamweight bout, on 17th September. Barney Ross, holder of the welterweight title, and Cedeferino Garcia, meet on 28th September. The Thil-Apostoli bout has been postponed till 23rd September from 17th September. The commission recognises Thil as champion of Europe and Freddie Steel as the world champion.
