NEW ZEALAND V. ENGLISH XL BREAK DOWN OF BATTING GOOD WORK IN THE FIELD ROBERTS IN GREAT FORM [United I’rcßß Association—By Electrio To leg rn p h - Co py r i gb tl (Received 11th September, 10.40 a.m.) SCARBOROUGH, 10th September. The New Zealand cricket team performed creditably in the field in the match against Levcson Gower’s XI., but the batting broke down, the last five wickets falling for 101. Roberts was in great form. Bowling into the wind he swerved awkwardly with an excellent length. His morning figures were 7 overs, one maiden, 21 runs, 4 wickets. Excellent catching again assisted the bowlers. Wallace held two fine catches at mid-ofT, and Cowie a good one in the slips. New Zealand required to score over 300 in just .over three hours to win. The early batsmen went for the runs, Hadlee and Kerr adding sixty in a little over half an hour. Hadlee was brilliant, hitting seven fours. Six wickets fell quickly on a very lively pitch, Nichols bowling especial-
ly well. Gover captured his 200th wicket for the second season in succession. Cowie passed Merritt’s record with 107 wickets on his first tour. Vivian, Tindill, Kerr, Hadlee and Dunning are not visiting Ireland. Some of the players were eyewitnesses of the fatal crash in the King’s Cup race. Details: — LEVESON GOWER’S XI.
