H. j Downes, of Nelson, was solemnised at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Pnlmers- ! ton North, on Saturday, 4th September. The Rev. M. A. McDowell was the officiating minister, and Mr A, Trcguriha rendered appropriate music at the organ. The bride made a charming picture in a model gown of cream ncedlerun | lace over satin. The cowl neckline was trimmed with appliqucd flowers and seed pearls, the same quaint efTcd. being carried out on the train. From under the hem of her frock peeped brocaded shoes to match, and a beautiful hand-worked veil fell softly from a coronet of orange blossoms. The bride carried a fragrant bouquet of cyclamen, sweet peas, and freesias. The bride had three attendants: Miss Mollie Downes (Nelson), sister of the bridegroom, Miss Mollie Maddison (Pohangina), and Miss Joyce Doig (Te Aroha). Miss Downes was attired In Margaret Rose georgette, made on slim-fitting lines and trimmed with silver lame. Frills at the neck and hemline were a finishing touch. Misses Maddison and Doig were similarly attired in frocks of jubilee blue georgette. They wore silver lame and pink flowers in their hail, and carried bouquets of pink cyclamens, hyacinths, and sweet peas, and silver shoes completed Iheir dainty toilettes. Mr Robert Shaw, of Otaki, was best man. About 50 were present at the reception, which was held at the Rosco tearooms, the parents of the bride and bridegroom receiving the guests. The bride’s mother was attired in a becoming frock of royal blue figured crepe, trimmed with blue lace and gold lame. A black silk velvet coat and matching hat were also worn, and a bouquet of autumn shaded flowers was carried. Mrs Downes, mother of the bridegroom, was attired in a brown crepe-de-ehine frock, with a cloque coat and fox furs to match, and she carried a bouquet of autumn flowers. Mr McDowell presided, the tables being gay with spring blooms. Following the reading of many congratulatory messages the usual toasts were honoured. The happy couple, who have been the recipients of many costly and beautiful presents, including cheques from England, left later by car on their honeymoon tour. The bride travelled in a bottle green costume with a honey-gold j blouse, a hat of the same shade trim-j med with green, and a brown fox fur. Green shoes, purse and gloves completed her smart outfit. Their future home will be at Lower Hutt.
