SEDDON SHIELD
TO-DAY’S MATCH AT . WESTPORT GROUND IN GOOD ORDER CHANGES IN BULLER TEAM [Special to "The Mail"] WESTPORT, This Day. There was overnight rain in Westport, but not sufficient to affect the ground, which is in good order for th>3 Seddon Shield match between Nelson (challengers) and Buffer (holders). The Nelson team was accorded a civic reception last evening by the Mayor (Mr J. Kilkenny), and at a dance Mr F. Keating, President of the Euller Union, extended a welcome to the visiting team. Mr A. H. Crawley, president of the Nelson Union replied on behalf of the visitors. CHANGE IN REFEREE Mr R. Blazey, of Christchurch, will referee the match in place of Mr S. Hollander, who was not available. BULLER TEAM The Buffer team to defend the Shield was announced as follows: Full back: F. Neighbours. Threequarters: J. Hill, A. Dunn, R, Butterfield. Five-eighths: S. Stewart, A. Strachan. Half-back: B. Finlayson. . Forwards: R. Pratt, G. Orman, J. Lake, G. Mason, J, Brown, G. Wilson, A. Caldwell, T. Phipps. Emergencies: Forwards, D. A. Hudson, K. Corrie; backs, J. J. Gonley, D. Strachan. The selectors have announced the team with certain changes that might be termed eleventh hour experiments. Instead of dropping F. Neighbours because of his previous displays as second fiveeighths, the selectors have put him at full-back, a position in which he has never previously been tried. He is a strong tackier, but his kicking is an unknown quantity A. Dunn has been transferred from full-back to centre, where he should prove useful. The fiveeighths are Stewart and Strachan, who should go well together provided they can both curb their common fendency to run into the forwards. On the whole, changes made in the forwards, consequent upon the inclusion of Caldwell in place of K. Corrie, may prove beneficial. Corrie has locked with Wilson in all representative fixtures so far this season. Brown, previously a side row man, replaces him at lock. Caldwell has taken Brown’s former position. He has been playing spectacular football for his club this season, and should prove a valuable recruit. NELSON TEAM The Nelson team is as follows: Full-back: Scoltock. Threequarters: Boyce, Busch, Watson. Five-eighths: Cooke, Brinsden. Half-back: Costello. Forwards: Andrews, Fleet, Lusty, Craig, McKay, Drummond, McLean (captain), Lovell. Emergencies: Backs, Turley, Vass; forwards, Bonnington, Wishart.
