PLOT IN DUBLIN
TIMELY DISCOVERY MADE / EXPLOSION PLANNED LONDON. 30th August. Warned of a plot to blow up the Lansdowne Arena, Dublin, the police trained hidden machine-guns on it during a sports gathering. Armed police, also, mingled with the crowd, which was unaware of the plot. On receiving a telephone warning, the police had raced to the stadium, where they found electrical wires under the grandstand. The occasion was the inaugural championship meeting of the Irish Amateur Athletic Union. When the union was formed in April, the Republican Army had circularised clubs, warning them not to join it.
