"Mysterious Crossing" is a diverting mixture of mystery and eornedv. The picture centres around a roving reporter, played by the popular James Dunn, whose nose for news leads him to New Orleans' biggest story ol the year. He is crossing the Mississippi on a railroad ferry, on his wav to the Southern city, when he hears a splash near where two men have been standing He thinks it is a case of murder rather than of double suicide. When it develops that only one passenger is missing, and that he is the city’s most nrominent banker, the news man is positive that it is murder. Andy Devine, cast as a hill-billy singer, "haunts” the reporter throughout the picture, trying the impossible task of collecting a loan. Andy gets the laugh, even though he does not get his man or his cash. Jean Rogers has the feminine lead. Another new development in mystery ’plays is embodied in “Mysterious Crossing.” It is the matter of doing away with obscure and hidden clues. In this new type of mystery story, the audience is given access to the clues as quickly ns the leading ■ character gets them. People quick in | their deductions can announce the iguilty marj as soon as Dunn does.
