When Avery Hopwood wrote his “Gold Diggers” for David Bclasco about 18 years ago, he probably never realised that eight years after his death Warner Brothers, who purchased the original screen rights, would be producing, in 192(5. a fresh film edition of his famous musical comedy. But so popular was the first screening (a silent one.) of this Broadway success, that Warners made a talkie of it in 1928 under the title of “Gold Diggers of Broadway.” After further successes with the films of the same title the company decided to present a newlyfurbished versiot. of the film every two years. The current edition, “Gold Diggers of 1937" rates as best of the Gold Digger series. It has a far better story than the usual musical comedy. Dick
