To stop Gwen from becoming a crooner, Richard did quite a lot of thinking At last he had an idea. “It is no use offending Nigger,” he told Polly and Ted. “We must engineer something that will make him fall out with Gwen. How are you going to do that?” queried Polly. “In this way, replied Richard. This was always Gwen’s favourite chair until it got broken. Now I m going to mend it and see that she uses it next time she invites Nigger to tea. She will be only too pleased if she thinks it is mended.”
