THEFT OF MONEY
FAILURE TO ACCOUNT FOR UNION FEES [United Press association] HASTINGS, 23rd June. On a charge of the theft of £42 10s entrusted to him as the property of the Tomoana branch of the Wellington Freez. ing Workers’ Union, Hugh Gemmel Behan, single, aged 48, appeared in the Hastings Magistrate’s Court to-day. He pleaded guilty, and the magistrate, Mr J. Miller, placed him on probation for two years on condition that he took out a pro. hibition order and made restitution of the money appropriated. It was stated by the police that Bohan had been appointed to collect union fees, which were later to be handed over to the union secretary. He had collected £ll2 10s, but had failed to account for part of this.
