STORED FOR TWENTY YEARS
SECRET OF THE REFRIGERATOR YEARLY RITUAL (By Air Mail—From a Special Correspondent) - -n ■ ' - 5 LONDON. sth June. A poignant story of a fur coat that was never worn by the woman for whom it was bought has been revealed by Mr 7. Karter, a leading Scottish furrier. Hundreds of fur coats are stored annually in his refrigerator, but while there is a constant replenishment of stocks, there is one which has never left the un’erground room to which sonn of the costliest of garments are periodically taken for a general “toning up." It is a handsome fur coat, bought 20 years ago by a customer who intended that it should be a present to his wife to mark a notable anniversary. Then he was young, but to-day he is old, and although the possessor of the coat, he has never had it out of the shop. His wife, who was lying seriously ill, at the time of purchase, never recovered and the happiness he hoped to give her by presenting her with the fur coat was not achieved. Every year, on the anniversary of his wife’s death the grey-haired man returns to the shop, and is conducted to the refrigerator where the coat is taken out for his inspection.
