10,000 FROM ROGHDALE TEA AT ALEXANDER PALACE •.By Air Mail—From a Special Correspondent) LONDON, 29th May. One person in every ten left Roch dale for a trip to Windsor and London at the invitation of Miss Grade Fields. They travelled m 20 trains which left Rochdale between 3 a.ill. and 7 a.ill. and i i which every seat had been booked since last August. It is the biggest single rail trip ever organised. Led by nine guides, they invaded the stato apartments of Windsor Castle, the grounds, St. George’s Chapel. They watched the changing of the Guard, went tor trips on the I harries. Then 118 coaches took them to Alexan dra Palace, North London, for the big gest tea party ever held there—a party crowned by Graeie herself. One thousand five hundred workers m the transport, catering, and entertainment industries devoted the day to their needs. For tlie tea party were :—IB,OOO rolls ; 18.000 cakes; 9,000 meat pies; 1361 b of tra ; 4501 b of sugar ; 6301 b of jam ; 270 gallons of milk. But not even the vast Alexandra Palace could accommodate the visitors at one tune. There were three sittings Aftei Lea, some darned in the skating rink to Harry Hoy’s L.vricals- Grade’s turn was broadcast to them.
