WOMEN’S DIVISION

BROOKLYN-OMUKUM Members of the Brooklyri-Umukuri branch of the Women’s Division held their June meeting in the Brooklyn Hall, the president, Mrs L. Fry occupying the chair. hollowing the presentation of an interesting report on the annual meeting of the Provincial Executive, held at Nelson, a discussion took place in- regard to the branch’s contribution to the Winter Fair at Wakefield. It was decided that articles be made by members and brought to the July meeting for the work stall at the Winter Fair. Proceeds from the sale of the gifts, donated by members, were forwarded to augment the Housekeepers’ Sickness Benefit Fund. A letter was received from Mrs S. Robinson, Stoke, asking if any children in the district required help from the Crippled Children’s Society; and an invitation from the Motueka branch to attend a demonstration by Miss Viney. ; The roll-call—“ Old photographs” proved very interesting and entertaining. The competition for the month—“ Something new from something old”—was won by Mrs Charles Grooby (a pair of . slippers made from an old felt hat), Mrs B’owler being placed second. Mrs C. Barrow was the winner of the competition, organised by Mrs Young. Afternoon tea was dispensed and much enjoyed; and, before the meeting terminated, the president intimated that the competition for July would be an article made from a sugar bag, the roll call—“a motto”, and the hostesses. Mesdames A. Barrow and V. Fry.
