NEW ZEALAND HOCKEY TEAM
METHOD OF SELECTION PROTEST BY TARANAKI ASSOCIATION [By Telegraph-Press Association] ELTHAM, This Day. Strong objection to the method of selection of the New Zealand hockey team to tour Australia was voiced at a meeting of the Taranaki Hockey Association, and a motion recording a protest was adopted. It was stated that of the 16 players chosen, 11 represented city associations. Neither of Taranaki’s two nominees were selected, yet this province is regarded as one of the strongest hockey centres in the Dominon. Mr N. O. Ebbett movid that a protest be recorded on behalf of all country players and not Taranaki solely. “While members did not know the capabilities of the selected players, it appeared that preference had been shown for the nominees of major associations,” said the president, the Rev. J. A. Ryburn.
