The response to the Australian loan was not surprising in view of the unsettled state of the gild-edged market, The Australian Associated Press financial writer poitns out that the bulk of the original loan passed into the hands of the short-term market, which meant that the conversion issue had to attract fresh applicants, which was most difficult at the moment. The loan opened at 10s discount. The underwriters are believed to have been left with 53 per cent.
