SHORT INNINGS
NOTTINGHAM’S MEAGRE TOTAL COWIE AND ROBERTS BOWL WELL TOURISTS’ EXCELLENT START (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association (Received 20th June, 10 a.m.) NOTTINGHAM, 10th June. The manful bowling of Cowie, well supported by Roberts and Duning, enabled the New Zealanders to accomplish an otustandingly fine performance in dismissing Nottingham, a hitherto Unbeaten county, on an excellent wicket in under three hours. Cowie, mustering a good pace through the air and off the ground, kept the batsman constantly respectful. He displayed Wonderful stamina, bowling unchanged for nearly an hour in the morning and for another hour in the afternoon. When he was given his sweater he was applauded as though he had made a century, Roberts showed the best form since the match against Surrey. He regained a nip off the pitch and sWUtig the ball slightly, catches being taken behind the wickets and in the slips. One catch was missed in the slips, while a snick flew over the slips' heads. When the main bowlers required a Test, Dunning, supported by good catches, finished the innings. Moloney’s slows again broke a partnership which appeared likely to be troublesome. The bowlers should be doubly praised as after lunch the ball was somewhat greasy. Rain caused an hour’s interruption in the morning. The New Zealand batting was almost as satisfying as the . bowling. Hadlee and Kerr confidently scored 74 runs for the first wicket in just over an hour. The former touched one into the stumps after a sound innings, Which included four fours and one five, Kerr batted steadily for ah hour and a hfilf and hit four fours. Larwood bowled only one over. Voce was played confidently, iikewise Butler, who has taken two hat tricks this Season. The teams were:— i.:. New Zealand: Page, Hadlee, Whir, Kerr, Tindill, Moloney, Donnelly, Rob-' erts, Dunhing.
