YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUBS

DOVEDALE BRANCH I A ROE ATTENDANCE AT ANNUAL MEETING VAULE OF THE MOVEMENT The annual meeting of the Dovedalc branch of the Young Farmers’ Chibs was held in the Bible Class Hall: A full attendance, of members was present and four new members were admitted. The elect ion resulted as follows :—( hairman, Mr R, Brislaiie ; secretary-treasurer, Mr V. Davies; President, Mr C- E. dordan; auditor, Mr 11. de O. Chamberlain; executive committee chairman, secretary and Messrs d. Win, C. Sileock and R. Jordan. It was decided that Ibc meetings be held fortnightly on Hie 2nd and 4lh Tuesdays of the month, from the lltli May, when a lantern lecture would he delivered by Mr 11. de O. Chamberlain, B Agr. Sc., N.P.A., instructor in agriculture, on “Strains in Paslu'-ft Plants,” in the Bible Class Hall at 8 p.m. An invitation to all members of the Farmers’ Union, Women's Divisions and Men's, also the junior Womens’ Division. to be present at this lecture is extended and it is hoped that a good representation from these bodies will be obtained. It was decided that Hie evening of Thursday. 24th June be set, aside for the moving-picture address, “Implements and their History.” Members of the above unions are all cordially urged to be present on that occasion also.

In taking Hi*’ chair, the new chairman. Mr R. Brisbane thanked members for the confidence reposed in hi in and assured them of the best, service of which lie was capable. He said that (he retiring chairman, Mr T. Win. had carried out his work in an exemplary and most enthusiastic manner and asked members to accord to Mr Win, a most hearty vote of thanks for his past services, Mr Brislane then 'welcomed Mr Jordan a.i president of the Povedale Chib. He said that Mr Jordan had always been popular with club members and his un failing interest and hard work for the club made his appointment a very proper one, and most acceptable to all members. Tn reply, Mr Jordan recalled that lie had missed one meeting of the club in which lie was deeply interested. He felt that a new era was dawning for ’ the Voting Farmers' Club movement in Nelson and was pleased to he associated with it. Concluding his remarks, the president stated that the Povedale club should endeavour ta attract new members and take a leading position in the work of the district movement.

Mr II tie O. Chamberlain who attended the meeting then gave a short address on the value of the club movement, and the Educational Week to he held in Nelson from the l 7 t,h to the 19th May. The speaker stressed the fact that the clubs arc not merely a local body hut a part of •in international chain comprising some millions of members. “The Clubs,” lie said, are not solely agricultural in chara' tcr but am a movement for the higher social and general education of young farmers.
