BOYS WHO LEFT COLLEGE IN 1936
THEIR DESTINATIONS “The average age of boys leaving College during 1936 (excluding trans-
fers) was 16 years 4J months,” stated the Principal of Nelson College, Mr H. V. Searle, in his report to the Council of Governors last evening. “A bigger number than usual of younger boys left, 30 of them being first years boys. “Destinations of boys leaving were: University Colleges, 14; Training Colleges, 4; local body or Government service, 18; banking, insurance, 6; legal, 0; commercial, 35: engineering, surveying, architecture, 24; trade, 22; shops and warehouses, 40; farming, 37; various, such as Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, etc., 7; awaiting employment, 2; total, 209.”
The number leaving College in the previous year was 157.
