NELSON COLLEGES

COUNCIL OF GOVERNORS MONTHLY MEETING HELD CORONATION BALL POSTPONED At the monthly meeting of the College Council of Governors held last evening, there were present: Mr C. R. Fell (chairman), Mr H. Atrnore, Mrs Childs, Dr. W. D. S. Johnston, Dr. IT. E. A. Washbourn, Messrs F. 0. Hamilton, W. Lock, C. Milner, A. E. Max, W. A. Armstrong, F. V. Knapp, F. J. Cullen and \Y. A. Kenning.

Reports from the supervisor of the technical classes and the principals of the Boys’ and Girls’ Colleges were read and adopted. The Girls’ College was congratulated on the fine production of the school magazine.

In regard to the Coronation, the Lady Principal (Miss Stewart) reported that Miss Gray, Commisisoner for Girl Guides, had been engaged to address the school on 11th May. Voluntary contributions amounting to £5 had been made to the King George V Memorial Fund.

The Principal of the Boys’ College (Mr H. V. Searle) stated that the Bishop of Nelson would address the College and later plant a Coronation oak. Sister Miller was appointed to the position of sanatorium nurse at the Boys’ College. Mr N. Davy was thanked for his work in connection with the cleaning of the walls at the Boys’ College baths, and Mr M. F. Airey for donations-‘to the school museum.

Mr Searle reported that three additional boys had passed the matriculation examination on a recount of the marks. It was resolved to postpone indefinitely the Old Collegians’ Ball, which was to have been held on Coronation right. The question of fixing a date for the ball will be considered at the special meeting of the Council of 17th May, with a view to holding it during the holidays. Mr H. Atrnore was nominated as member for the Nelson District to the Victoria University Council. A request by Mr E. Coote for the removal of a tree which was shading his property was referred to the House Committee.
