EXPORT BUTTER BOXES

REGULAR SUPPLY AT UNIFORM PRICE POOL TO BE ESTABLISHED [United Press Association] WELLINGTON, 29th April. Regulations issued under the Agriculture (Emergency Powers) Act. 1935. provide for the setting up of an export butter-box pool, in order t.. ensure for all proprietors of manufacturing dairies in New Zealand a regular supply of export butter boxes at a uniform price for each type of box. The Dairy Board shall be the sole and exclusive agent of every proprietor o( a manufacturing dairy for the purpose of ' purchasing export butter boxes. Accordingly it shall not be lawful for any proprietor of a manufacturing dairy to purchase export butter boxes save through the board, as his agent.

No proprietor of a manufacturing dairy shall pack butter intended for export beyond New Zealand, or ship butter for export beyond New Zealand in an export butter box which was not purchased by the board as agent of the proprietor.

In pursuance of these regulations the prices to be paid to licensees for export butter boxes supplied under the regulations shall be fixed by the Minister in respect of each individual licensee for the particular type of export butter box so supplied, but the price so fixed may be a provisional price, subject to readjustment according to the cost of timber. The proprietors of manufacturing dairies shall pay to the board for export butter boxes 'supplied under these regulations a uniform price, ex box factory, for each type of box, to be ascertained each -season. •■..

The board, with the approval of the Minister, may place a contract or contracts in any season with any manufacturer or-manufacturers outside New Zealand for the supply of such quantities of export butter boxes as the Minister shall approve. Notwithstanding anything in the regulations, the board shall have absolute discretion to permit the proprietor of any manufac' turing dairy to obtain export butter boxes otherwise than as provided, and to use the same for packing and exporting butter frrom New Zealand in certain cases. No person shall manufacture export butter boxes or exporl ! cheese crates in New Zealand except in pursuance of a license issued under the provisions of the regulations.
