RACING NOTES

THE DANNEVIRKE MEETING REVIEW OF TO-MORROW’S FIELDS (By Cuddle) Very good acceptances have been received for the opening day, to-morrow, of the Dannevirke Racing Club’s Meeting, which is to be held at Woodville. STEEPLECHASE EVENT At 12.15 the programme opens with the Mangatere Steeples, of 2.1 miles, and this event will be difficult for the public to sort up. Most of the field are hurdlers, and a rather poor lot at that. Petrarch should be the hardest to dispose of and Invictus is a good jumper who will be well supported. Other possibilities are Sporting Song and Royal Mimic. MAIDEN STAKES Thirteen have accepted for the Maiden Stakes, of six furlongs, and it will be another tough race with little to gu'de the investor. Notice has shown a lot of speed at times and is due to win. Naughty Marietta, Galteemore and Glcnthawn are promising and should offer Notice most opposition. EVEN FIELD A nicely balanced field is carded for the Dannevirke Handicap of one and a quarter miles. Catalogue is the form horse and as such should be favourite. Werohia is not racine too generously at present, and Pakanui may find the distance too far, but Arctic King will like the track and distance a"d should give Catalogue a good race for first position. Mandamus should run prominently and Parquet on 7.9 may be a surpirse packet. SEVEN FURLONGS FOR HACKS Export appears to have his chance in the Makirikiri Handicap of seven furlongs. War Lap and Lucullus Lad are two promising hacks who may improve on their last races. Blue Garter is always handy and may get into a place. Royal Record has a chance, while Nereus is liable to surprise over this distance. RED MANFRED’S RETURN Red Manfred at his best would be a "sitter” in the Akitio Handicap of six furlongs but may need a race, not having sported silk for nearly two years. Lady Ina is very smart and may dispute favouritism with Lone Raider. Hunting Mars, Flammarion and Hunter’s Morn are all very speedy and on the minimum are Huntette and Collodian, two promoted hacks, the latter of which must have a chance. FIELD FULL OF POSSIBILITIES The biggest field of the day is listed for the Tahoraite Handicap of six furlongs and is full of possibilities. If reserved Hunter’s Morn should be favourite and the one the others have to head off. Lacquer is smart, as is Jazz Boy, but the good looking Top Hat, who won so well at Fielding when backed from the right quarter, looks to have a royal chance of taking another heat. Race Call and Diamond Cutter are possibilities on the minimum. CORROBOREE Corroboree looks the pick of the day and should send the public home happy after the last event. Le Grand and Laggard, with perhaps Kentucky Song, are the only ones who appear to have a chance of lowering Corroboree’s colours, but the good-looking colt should win.
