BARLEY INDUSTRY
ADVISORY COMMITTEE APPOINTED PERSONNEL ANNOUNCED LBy Telegraph —Press Association] WELLINGTON, This Day. The personnel of the Barley Advisory Committee was announced by the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin. The Minister recalled that in a statement made in November last he expressed the desire of the Government to give effect to the proposals for iinprovemeiit of the barley industry, and then iridicated that an advisory committee would be set up to assist the Government in that direction. The personnel of this committee has now been decided as follows:
Chairman: Mr R. B. Bennett, Department of Agriculture.
Growers’ Representatives: Messrs R. T. McMillan (Leeston), H. H. Gifford (Blfenheim).
Malsiers’ Representatives: Messrs J. H. Hewlett (Christchurch), A. B. Duncan (Christchurch), J. M. Smith (Department of Agriculture, Dunedin). “I wish to make it perfectly clear that there is no intention on the part ol' the Government of ’controlling’ the industry” said the Minister. “My aim is rather that any improvements which may be effected should be brought about by voluntary co-operation within the industry itself. Representation on the advisory committee <?f growers aiid malsters should facilitate the puttlhg into operation of improved practices. The first meeting of the xommittad would be held at an early date.
