POWER BOARD CHAIRMAN
MR 11. E. STEPHENS ELECTED Mr H. E. Stephens was elected chairman of the Waimea Electric Power Board. At a special meeting of the board at Richmond yesterday. Mr Stephens holds the position until the annual meeting next month, when the election for a chairman will again be held.
Mr Stephens said he accepted the position knowing that he would have the support of the board members and the staff. He knew that although board members might differ individually in their views every one was genuinely out to do what he thought was in the interests of ratepayers. Knowing that, he fell that he would get the support necessary for a chairman. In addition he considered that the board had a very excellent staff. He was prepared to accept the position and hoped that his work would be done in a way satisfactory to members and ratepayers. Mr Stephens added that he knew he had a high standard to maintain: the board had been fortunate in Its former chairmen.
