MOTOR REGULATIONS
WHAT DOES DRIVING MEAN ? HELD TO COVER CAR INSECURELY PARKED INTERESTING CASE AT WELLINGTON [Ry Telegraph—Preps Apsoeiatirtn] WELLINGTON, This Day. “Driving means the manipulation of the machinery which propels a car. and steers a car and stops a car," said the Magistrate (Mr Mosley) in the Court to-day. Any one of these alone is insufficient- to designate driving. On his advice, defendant had to plead not guilty to driving without due care and attention, having left a lorry insecurely parked so that it had crossed Cuba street and run into a telephone box. The police explained that the old regulations provided for the offence of insecure parking, but no provision was actually laid down in the new regulations, but they proposed to prove that the offence came under the heading “driving without due care and attention.”
After the case was argued, the Magistrate held that it was in the manipulation of the machinery to stop a car that defendant was careless, and therefore, he found him guilty. The defendant was convicted and ordered to pay costs.
