FIVE-STORY BUILDING DESTROYED

A five-storey bunding occupied by Grimley. Limited, was destroyed by dre early in the morning. The damage is estimated at £IOO.OOO. Three shops in tiie front of the building were also razed. The lire, which was heralded by a series of terrific explosions, spread among the inflammable stocks, including paints and spirits, with amazing rapidity. Every brigade in the city area attended. and only the strenuous efforts of the firemen prevented the flames from spreading to other buildings in the block, which included Grace Bros, huge emporium. Eight families in their homes at the rear of Grimley’s raced for their lives when the flames threatened to ignite thv houses.
