RAILWAY EMPLOYEES IN U.S.A.
PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT INTERVENES INVESTIGATION BOARD APPOINTED [United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] NEW YORK. 27th April. President Roosevelt intervened in a threatened strike of 25,000 employees in eleven major railways here, belonging to the Affiliated Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, which is affiliated with the A.F.L. He appointed an emergency board to investigate the dispute and make recommendations for a settlement. Under the terms of the Railway Labour Act, it is illegal for the union to call a strike within the next 60 days. The board is also to study a controversy between the Brotherhood and the Longshoremen’s Association.
