CHECKING UP ON THE RODING SCHEME

QUANTITY OF WATER AND COST OF WORK _____ ° APPROVAL BY EXPERTS When dealing with any uncertainty there might be regarding the amount of water and the estimated cost of the proposed Roding water scheme at a meeting held in the Brook Street School last evening Councillor J. A. Harley pointed out that it was the scheme which the Hume Company had intended to adopt. The Nelson City Engineer had measured the water over a number of years and had prepared the scheme for the council. Mr F, J. Williams who had been chosen by the Council as the most qualified engineer available in New Zealand, and who had had a wealth of experience with water supply schemes, had given his approval, his report stating that it was the best proposal for Nelson. In addition the Public Works Department had checked up on the proposal both in regard to the amount of water, and the estimates, and that was followed by the Loans' Board satisfying itself of the necessity of the scheme and on the details of the proposal. The Health Department had given its approval of the quality of water, all the tests being highly satisfactory. Further, the last City Council was unanimously in favour of the scheme and the present Council after full investigation unanimously recommended it to the ratepayers in the best interests of the city.
