Charles McMorrow, after being convicted for smuggling and being fined £IOO, in default six months’ imprisonment, in Dowra, County Leitrim, leapt from the dock, and, sprinted and outdistanced his pursuers. He plunged Into the river Shannon, swam to the other side, and headed for the Cuilcagh mountains, the boundary of the Free State and Ulster.
