CROSSFIRE OF CRITICISM REPLY BY THE CHANCELLOR NO INTENTION TO CREATE INJUSTICE [United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph-Copyright] LONDON, 22nd April. In the House of Commons Mr Neville Chamberlain, after listening to a crossfire of criticism, said: "It is ijecessary for the country to realise that the total cost of rearmament cannot be cast •on posterity. Everyone must hope that a means may bo found of ending the armaments race.” Referring to the national defence contribution the Chancellor said it was not intended to be a crippling or penalising tax or to create injustice between one class of firm and another. "If I can be allowed to make inquiries and ascertain possible dangers then I had better have a certain amount of elasticity to conform to what may come to my notice.”
