A visitor to the village noticed that one of the inhabitants was treated with deep respect by the others. “I observe," said the visitor to an aged inhabitant, "that you all treat this man with marked deference.” "Yes, he’s one of the early settlers.” “Early settlers?" asked the other. “Why, he can’t be ! more than thirty.” "That may be," replied the old man, “but he pays his bills on the first of every month.” Daughter: “But, Dad, don’t you believe that two can live as cheaply as one?” Dad: “Sure! Your mother and I arc living as cheaply as you.”
