CLERICAL WORKERS

(Ey Telegraph—Press Association) PALMERSTON N., This Day. On receipt of further objections, it was agreed that the joining of shipping companies as parties be left to the Arbitration Court. Various local bodies, together with the Wellington Local Bodies Industrial Union of Workers, objected to the inclusion of the last named, stating that endeavours were being made to form a separate agreement for clerical workers in local body oflices. Mr G. M. Renner, Secretary of The Local Body Workers’ Union, said that the city and borough councils had been cited for a separate agreement. It was agreed that the right be reserved for the clerical union to include all local bodies except city and borough councils, if the other local bodies were not included in the citation for a separate agreement. The Commissioner referred to two awards recently made in Wellington covering general clerical workers and those in manufacturers offices. He suggested that a union in the present proceedings could not expect the employers in the country districts to pay higher rates than those pertaining in the city, lie thought that the representatives would be well advised to settle on the terms of either one of the awards mentioned. The employers’ representatives are considering during the luncheon adjournment a suggestion by the employees that the agreement be made on the terms of the Wellington 25 mile radius General Clerical Workers’ Award.
