INFANTILE PARALYSIS

POSITIVE CASE AT ASHBURTON BOY FROM TIMARU (By Telegraph—Press Association) ASHBURTON. This Day. A positive case of infantile paralysis, a boy aged 16 years, was sent to hospital from Green Street. He came from Timaru about 12 days ago and was working on a relative’s farm until yesterday. DISTEMPER IN DOGS POSSIBLE SOURCE OF INFECTION WAIRARAPA FARMERS’ OBSERVATIONS MASTERTON, This Day. The possibility that distemper in dogs may have some bearing on infantile paralysis infection is suggested by a Wairarapa farmer, Mr E. F. Barton. Mr Barton said he had noted during the infantile paralysis epidemic in 1925 the number of cases. He instanced 10 or more in which children who contracted the disease had previously been more or less in contact with dogs suffering from distemper, and in some instances had tended sick animals. He made it clear that he merely gave the results of his observations for what they were worth and as possibly deserving the attention of those who were investigating the sources and methods of infantile paralysis infection. CRUISER’S VISIT CANCELLED WELLINGTON, This Day. In compliance with a recommendation from the Health Department, the cruiser Achilles, the flagship of the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, will not pay her projected visit to Bluff for the cenetenary celebrations in March. The Achilles which arrived yesterday, will remain here for a month or more.
