THREATS DENIED
A MISUNDERSTANDING ALLEGED (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MONTREAL, 19th December. M. Taschereau denied making threats recently attributed to him, and blamed a misunderstanding. Mr Hepburn, on 18th December, issued a statement alleging tliat the former Premier, Mr Taschereau, tried to force the OnLario Government to continue power contracts with four Quebec companies by threats to stop the entire export of Ontario and plunge Eastern Ontario in darkness; and also to commit sabotage by pulling plugs in the sluice gates on the Quebec side of the Chats Falls. The development of the threat was thwarted by the purchase of a frequency changer by the Hydro Commission, making all Ontario independent of the Quebec supply.
