FIGHT ON WATERFRONT
WARRING ELEMENTS AMONG STRIKERS AMERICAN TROUBLE SPREADS (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK, 19th December. Warring elements among ship strikers had a fight on the waterfront and scores were bruised and cut. Mr J. Ryan, President of the International Longshoreman’s Association, complained to the police that his members reporting for duty at the piers were attacked by striking seamen. Mr Curran stated that the men were ordered to keep the peace but he could not control hotheads. The Baltimore longshoremen joined the strike following the speech by Mr Bridges. The members of two unions are involved, bringing the total strikers there to more than 5000 and spreading the strike to foreign ships. The leaders of the Pacific Coast strike announced that the terms of settlement have not been agreed to.
