PLANS TO MARRY

MISS CHURCHILL AND DANCER (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK, 17th December, The United Press news agency’s Philadelphia correspondent states that business associates of Vic. Oliver, the dancer, have revealed that he plans to marry Miss Sarah Churchill, the actress daughter of Mr Winston Churchill, in England before Christmas. Oliver has a contract in “Carmen” here which permits him to leave when he pleases, and it -is reported that he is now in New York preparatory to sailing.

Miss Churchill and her brother, Mr Randolph Churchill, who arrived in New York within twenty-four hours of each other in September, refused to make any statement about the object of Miss Churchill’s visit. Vic. Oliver left on a theatrical tour after declaring that “everything depended on the Churchill family,” Miss Churchill, who is twenty-one years of age, made her stage debut in London early this year as a chorus girl in a show in which Oliver also appeared. On 16th September Miss Churchill sailed unexpectedly for New York. It was believed that she accepted an invitation by Oliver to join his new show, “Shooting High,” at a salary of £l2 a week. The “Daily Mail” believed, that, before leaving, Miss Churchill wrote to her mother intimating that she might soon become engaged to Oliver. When questioned in New-York, however, Oliver said he had no intention of marrying a statesman’s daughter. News that the actress would “elope” to avoid- parental objections to the match, and a later report of the sailing of her brother, to prevent the wedding, if he could, attracted considerable attention.
