MOTUEKA

MISS FOSTER-BARHAM’S RECITAL

Miss Min Foster-Barham gave her second violin recital in the Nelson district at the Motueka Institute Hall last Monday, her accompanist being Miss Josephine Whitehorn. Owing to the fact that several other functions were being held the same night, the audience was small; but as the date of the recital had previously been postponed, this was unavoidable. Those present, however, were most enthusiastic.

Miss Foster-Barham’s violin solos were well received and included Handel’s Sonata in A, Lejende by Wieniawski, Hoffman’s Stepenbilder, Minuette by Mozart, and others. In addition to violin solos, there were vocal and pianoforte items. These included Schumann’s “Thou’rt like a lovely Flower”; and “Nymphs and Shepherds,” by Purcell; and “Coronach” by Edgar Barratt.

A feature of the concert was a selection of vocal items by Mr Driver of Tasman who was accompanied by Mr Allan James and by Mr Justin Foster-Barham of Riwaka. The former sang “The Windmill,” “The Little Brown Bird,” and “When the House was Asleep”; Mr Barham sang “Absence” and “The Mighty Deep.” Miss Whitehorn accompanied admirably and was of unfailing support throughout the programme.
