ST. ANDREW’S ORPHANAGE
AN APPEAL , (To The Editor' Sir, — r I lie trustees and matron of St. Andrew’s Orphanage are very anxious that the children- should have their usual happy Christmas and holiday camp, but our financial position makes it difficult. We are very grateful for several donations already received, but we want more. Here’s an opportunity for people without children of their own.
Donations may be sent to the secretary, G.P.0.. Box 100 or left at the Diocesan office, Suesex street. There are still some that think this institution “Church of England.” Though it had its origin in the'Diocesan Synod, its doors, are open to children of all denominations. However the Board of Trustees may. and does include men and women who belong to churches, other than the Church of England.
It may interest some to learn that it was as far back as 1885, that the Rev. ,1. P, Kenipthome, seconded by- Mr C. Y. Fell; moved in Synod, that the time was ripe for the establishment of a society for the protection" of destitute and orphan children. A committee was set up and/reported in favour of the idea. The report was adopted and the following committee was elected: The Bishop (Bishop Suter), Archdeacon Mules, the Revs. J. P. Kempthorne, J. L. Nightingale, A. 11. Scogwick and Messrs TI. Y. Gully, J. Meeson. C. Y. Fell, ,T. E. Honeywell, A. I).. Bayfield, Wilson Heaps, J. Holloway, W. H. Turner and F. D. Greenwood. The orphanage came into working existence in 1887, almost 50 years ago. May I add that at the Unitejl Service on Christmas Night in the. Methodist Church a collection will be made for this institution.
On behalf of the trustees—-I am. etc , P. B. HAGGITT. >. Chairman.
