UMUKURI-BROOKLYN BRANCH
At the December meeting of the Umukuri-Brooklyn Branch of the Women’s Division, the president, Mrs L. Fry, presided over a good attendance of members. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs Knowles, president of the Pangatotara Branch, in her bereavement.
The roll-call—Christmas recipes—was well responded to also the competition for the month —a Christmas gift. Mrs W. Fowler was the winner of the competition, Mrs L. Fry being second. Three delegates were appointed to attend the conference, to take place in Nelson next month. Mrs L. Grooby reported ’ on the social afternoon held at the Brooklyn Hall on 28th November, when the stall had proved successful and all had enjoyed the entertainment given by the children, and the delicious afternoon tea. A letter was received from Mr Twomey, Christchurch, thanking the Branch for the parcel of gifts for Leper Island. The President intimated that the roll-call for January.would be “Some’thing most enjoyed,” and the competition —posy of flowers. An enjoyable evening concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
