CARPENTERS’ AWARD
40-HOUR WEEK AT 2/GA AN HOUR (By Telegraph—Tress Association) ’WELLINGTON, 18th December. The carpenters’ award issued by the Court of Arbitration provides a 40-hour week with a wage of 2s 6|d an hour for ‘journeymen.
The same hours are fixed for country work, but the overtime rate was fixed at a penny an hour. Ordinary overtime rates are time and a-half for the first four hours and double time thereafter.
A 44-hour, five and a-half day week is fixed for carpenters employed by harbour boards, maintenance carpenters employed by freezing companies, and carpenters employed by hospital boards. " * •
