CLUB WHICH MEETS ON THE SEA BOTTOM
Strangest of the world’s clubs is the French “Underwater Club.” It was started by a M. Painleve, a scientist, with the object of combining the study of underwater science and having a good time.” M. Painleve has invented an underwater cinema camera, and his assistant has discovered a compact and efficient diving apparatus which enables anyone without any training as a diver to enjoy himself on the sea bed.
The apparatus consists only of a headpiece and a bottle of compressed air which is carried on the back. A diving dress is not worn, and no connection with the surface of the water is necessary.
The octopus is the most dangerous of the troubles the clubites encounter, though by keeping quite still when attacked they have found that the octopus becomes bored and swims away.
