UNSATISFACTORY COVERAGE
IN COUNTRY DISTRICTS
Comments by the two Government valuers of the B stations disclose that they were not satisfied with radio coverage in New Zealand, reports the “Radio Record.” This has been known to thousands of listeners in the Dominion for some years. In districts north of Auckland reception in mhny places is very poor indeed. No alternative services are provided during the daytime, and 2YA, 3YA and 4YA cannot be received in daylight. Again, in many of these places interference from power lines spoils reception from even IYA. The position in Thames, Waihi, Taneatua, Whakatane. Opotiki and Rotorua is very much the same. The suggestion that the Government is anxious to take over B stations will be hailed with delight by listeners. Even if these B stations were used in the meantime for relay purposes improved coverage would result. Jt is suggested that several of the smaller B stations could be located in these districts where reception is poor and a, highly efficient aerial and receiver system installed. Naturally a good location would have to he selected. These B stations could then rebroadcast programmes not receivable under ordinary and prevailing conditions. ’
