“TOO MANY WOWSERS”
(United Press Association)
CHRISTCHURCH, 17th December. "There are far too many wowsers in New Zealand,” exclaimed Mr W. P. Spencer at this morning’s meeting of the Canterbury Education Board when referring to a letter from the Methodist Synod protesting against children being “taught gambling through raffles, etc.” Support of the Methodist protest was completely lacking, several members smiling and remarking “two-up schools” when the‘chairman (Mr J. W. Preen) read the heading “Discouragement of Gambling in Schools” on the agenda paper.
