PARENTS’ DAY

AT AUCKLAND POINT SCHOOL PRESENTATION OF PRIZES MRS H. ATMORE OPENS FETE There was a large attendance at Auckland 'Point School yesterday when Parents’ Day was held in glorious weather. The chairman of the school, Mr L. H. Bull, presided, 'and introduced Mrs H. Atmore. Mrs Atmore congratulated the winners of the cooking prizes; the sponges and scones were excellent. The speaker went on to say that the future was the children’s to make it what they would. Preparation for the future was no longer a matter of routine; unless the mind was developed morally to cope with the forces of nature one dreaded to think what would happen. Ignorance was the greatest foe they had, and wars were caused by it. What the world needed was sane intelligent education. The teachers had the responsibility of set-' ting the children’s feet on the right path which would lead to a safer and better future. They had often been told that their school days were the best, but the speaker considered that the best days were when they were reaping the fruits of their school days —being and doing something worthwhile. Mrs Atmore concluded by wishing them a happy and merry Christmas, and declared the fete open. Mrs Atmore then presented the following prizes: Honours List Std.
