FATAL BURNS
RECEIVED BY ELDERLY WOMAN (By Telegraph—Press Association) ROTORUA, This Day. An elderly single woman, Johanna Cunningham, aged 70 died in the Rotorua Hospital as the result of severe burns received when her clothing caught alight from a copper fire in front of which she was washing. Mrs Cunningham, who was in a very poor state of health, lived alone. Observing smoke issuing from the house, a neighbour asked a passing postman to investigate, and on entering the house, he found the kitchen full of smoke. He immediately gave the alarm and returning, found the unfortunate woman semi-conscious in a bedroom with practically the whole of her clothing burned from her body.
