THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE
TO REPLACE GERMAN IN SOVIET SCHOOLS (United PreHs Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MOSCOW, 22nd September. The Commissariat of Education is arranging for the English language to replace the German as the most widely taught foreign language in Soviet schools, the number of which where English and French is compulsory are to be quadrupled. A knowledge of English has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years. It is reported that Stalin is learning in order to read Shakespeare.
