AUCKLAND’S WINDMILL
£IOO,OOO PROPERTY GIFT (United Press Association) i —- AUCKLAND, 20th September. Alarmed by the prospect of the taking of his property as a site for the new Central Fire Station, Mr Partington, owner of the old windmill in Symonds Street, one of Auckland’s best-known landmarks, has authorised his solicitor to announce that provision has been made in his will for the bequeathing of the mill and surrounding properties, valued at about £IOO,000, to the city of Auckland on the death of the owner.
The Partington family has owned the mill since its erection in the early days of the city, and Mr Partington still operates the plant, living in a house adjacent.
Mr Partington decided to make public the fact that he was bequeathing the mill to the city only because of recent suggestions that the site might be taken for the fire station.
